Dear Friend [Thomas Millington]:
Enclosed please find a [complimentary] copy of
Standing with Israel: Why Christians Support the Jewish State. I
believe that this is one of the most important books concerning Israel to
be published in recent years. As I am certain you care about the future of
Israel, I urge you to read this book.
Throughout the United States, millions of Christians
are embracing Israel’s cause and rising to her defense. For the first time
in Israel’s history, we are seeing the emergence of a significant
pro-Israel movement outside of the Jewish community. Although we are in
need of these friends, many in our community have remained indifferent or
even hostile towards them. Given the long and tragic history of Christian
anti-Semitism, many Jews are, quite understandably, suspicious of what
they perceive as a sudden and inexplicable Christian change of heart.
During my time as the Ambassador of Israel to the
United States, I had the privilege of working very closely with our
Christian allies. In so doing, I learned that certain concerns about
Christian Zionism are largely misplaced. I can assure you that most of
those in the Christian community who have come to Israel’s defense are
true friends without ulterior motives.
This book confronts and dispels the myths that have
grown up around Christian Zionism. It clarifies the significant
differences between the Christians who persecuted us for so many centuries
and those who embrace us today. In short, Standing with Israel provides a
context in which to make a more informed decision about this alliance.
It is interesting to note that the author of
Standing with Israel, David Brog, is a practicing Jew, the cousin of
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, and served as Chief of Staff to
Senator Arlen Specter. While writing this book, David met all of the
leading Christian supporters of Israel in America. In 2006, when these
leaders decided to form Christians United for Israel, they invited David
to serve as the organization’s Executive Director. Through the leadership
of CUFI National Chairman Pastor John Hagee, Mr. Brog, and many others,
CUFI [www.cufi.org] has quickly grown to
become the largest Christian pro-Israel group in America with a presence
in all 50 states and in over 100 US cities.
I hope you are as touched by Standing with Israel as
I was.
Sincerely,

Ambassador Daniel Ayalon
