Inevitably there came the temptations of power and prosperity within the [Roman Catholic, "Universal"] church and opposition to its growing power and prosperity from without. Then came the Reformation. Roman Catholic scholars readily admit that there were corrupt individuals within the church, that many of its members had sinned and that some of its hierarchy had done wrong, and that reform was necessary. Indeed, reform was under way before the Reformation broke; Martin Luther himself was a Catholic reformer within the church before he became a Protestant. Erasmus and Savonarola wrote and preached against the corruption and worldliness of certain Roman Catholic leaders and laymen, but they stayed within the church. That all these reformers had a case against the members of the Roman Church is not denied by the Roman Catholics; they do, however, maintain that while priests and bishops and even popes may err, the one true church cannot err, and that Luther was wrong in rebelling against the church. But rebel he did, and the Roman Church suffered its most fateful division.
There were, too, other reasons for the revolt. There was the growth of nationalism and secularism, the ambitions of political princes and rulers with great personal ambitions who wanted no interference from the church. And there was the Renaissance, with its revival of Greek and Roman pagan influences and emphases. All these forces worked together to produce the Reformation; even the Counter Reformation already at work within the structure of the Roman Church, which came to a head in the Council of Trent, could not stop it, for the Protestant insistence upon Christ as the head of the Christian church, the Bible as its authority, the Holy Spirit as its inspiration, the fellowship of its membership as its strength, personal experience in Christ as the way to salvation, and the right of individual interpretation of the Scriptures denied too much of the authority and dogma of Roman Catholic church for any compromise to be effective.

The Fourteenth century “Disputations.” These Disputations were public debates forced on the Jews by their Catholic oppressors. A Disputation might occur when a Catholic bishop sent his storm troopers into a nearby synagogue and dragged the local rabbi into the public square. The rabbi would then be forced to defend the Jewish faith on the spot. If the rabbi lost the local Jewish population could be forcibly converted to Catholicism; if he won he could be charged with insulting the Catholic religion and be forced to flee for his life. The Disputation was really a no-win situation but most Jews would agree that becoming a refugee is preferable to being forcibly converted to Catholicism. -The Hebrew Yeshua vs. the Greek Jesus, Nehemia Gordon

"The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God." -President John F. Kennedy (1961) [This quote makes one question the motives for his assassination.]  Slavery

In 1928, U. S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis gave us this farsighted warning: “Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government’s purposes are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding."

It is written: "And God placed all things under his [Jesus'] feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way." -Eph. 1:23, 24    Test the Spirits

"The Inquisition- the Catholic Church’s medieval anti-heresy machine- left many tens of thousands, if not millions, of Jews, Protestants and Muslims, as well as deviant Catholics, dead in Europe and the New World between the 13th and 19th centuries, imprisoning and torturing many more. What’s more the campaign to ensure Catholic purity was the forerunner of much of today’s religious intolerance."

"Christians hate Jews. Christians kill Jews." -Common stronghold in the minds of Jews

This new five-story building will allow us to show the Jewish people of Jerusalem and Israel that true Believers love and support them. We will showcase the story of Corrie ten Boom and others who sacrificed so much to see Jewish people spared.
The new building will be a home to a museum for Christian Zionism- a witness to God’s Chosen People of the role Christians played in the planning, creation, rebirth and survival of the Jewish state. -Mike Evans Jerusalem Prayer Team

 Discernment from a High Tower

“History has shown, that rather than serving as a force of peace, “religions have served to foment (instigate) scores of horrendous and bloody wars,’ and religious leaders who have ordered their followers, in the name of religion, to kill indiscriminately, ‘have done so by hijacking and distorting the religions in whose name they speak.’” Israel Singer; World Jewish Congress, Report/Fall 2005, page 7

"Society today is deeply influenced by what is known as Judeo-Christian ethics, which is essentially based on Torah principles. It was this unique book of instructions that introduced such fundamental concepts as, 'love thy neighbor' and 'do not hate your brother in your heart.' In ancient society there was no such thing as a desire for peace, the nations simply vied for power through military might. The Torah spread the concept of peace to the world to such an extent that The United Nations motto is a verse from Isaiah, calling for a society where people lay down their weapons and sworn enemies become friends." - Rabbi Yehonasan Gefen, writer and educator in Jerusalem.

The Roman Catholic Church supported chivalry (medieval knighthood) and feudalism (the economic end social system in which land, worked by serfs, was held by vassals in exchange for military and other services to overlords)." -Handbook of Denominations, Frank S. Mead

"[The] feared fighting machine in Christendom-besides their military prowess they also possessed immense wealth and political power, becoming bankers and credit brokers to Medieval Europe and the allies of kings and popes. -The Templars by Edward Burman

"By the 12th century the Roman Catholic Church had become the world’s most powerful institution. It used its unlimited religious and political power to set up and depose kings and queens. It taxed people mercilessly and confis cated property to become the richest institution on earth. The pope offered crusading armies riches and eternal bliss to kill Muslims, heretics, and anyone who rejected papal supremacy." -Mike Gendron

Most of the colonial immigrants to the United States were Protestants and not Catholics.

“Let us turn to Jesus!  He alone is the way that leads to eternal happiness, the truth who satisfies the deepest longings of every human heart, and the life who brings ever new joy and hope, to us and to our world. Amen.”  -From the closing words of Pope Benedict’s homily at Yankee Stadium. Queens, NY April 20, 2008; Christ Our Hope, Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Journey to the United States and visit to the United Nations; page 116

Be Born Again

Word of Caution: The Roman Pontiff claims supreme and universal power over the whole Church (CCC 881, 882); however, Jesus himself is head of His Church through His Holy Spirit! Know that all of the Pope's eternal Salvation comes from the Lord Jesus Christ!

Caution: The infallibility of the Pope was proclaimed by Vatican Counsel in 1870: Hear the Holy See's wisdom and message of peace and love, but please understand carefully: There is only one king and one rule and one power that can transform the human heart and mind in love to enable people, yes even you, to "love others as thyself"...His name, Christ Jesus/Yeshua! His worshippers worship in Spirit and in truth!
