It is written: "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent upon anybody." -1 Thessalonians 4:11,12

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man will not work, he shall not eat.'" -2 Thessalonians 3:10

An economic principle: Poverty exists where a people consume more than they produce; on the other hand, prosperity exists where a people produce more than they consume.

 America Learned about: Socialism

"Socialism is usually distinguished from communism only in degree."  -Dictionary of Philosophy and Religion, W. L. Resse

"Socialism is GREAT - UNTIL you run out of other people's money." - Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of Great Britain

"What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving." - Dr. Adrian Rogers

"I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." -Winston Churchill

"Socialism ... is too ready to suppose that better economic conditions will themselves make men happy. It is not only more material goods that men need, but more freedom, more self-direction, more outlet for creativeness, more opportunity for the joy of life, more voluntary cooperation and less involuntary subservience to purposes not their own." -Bertrand Russell (1872-1970); Quotationary, Leonard Roy Frank

"Government providing for the people is called Socialism or Communism, where government takes money by force or implied threat of force (taxation) from productive people and companies, and gives it to others." -The Illusion of Freedom, Donald Smith

"You and I both know that government dependency programs have failed to uproot entrenched poverty for decades. ... This faith-based organization demonstrates God's love for the poor by enabling them to free themselves from poverty." -Newt Gringrich

"The American People will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of 'Liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist Nation without knowing how it happened. -Norman Thomas US Socialist Party Presidential Candidate

"Unitarians* and socialists launched the drive to establish 'public schools' in New England in the late 1830s and were influential in extending 'free public education' across the states of the North into the Midwest before the 'Civil War.'" -The Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States, Benjamin F. Morris

* Jesus is to be regarded as human and not as a supernatural being. (Liberal Christianity: Unitarians and Universalists)

"In addition to the obvious attacks on morality we’ve seen of late, there is another societal ailment undermining our culture: entitlement. Robert George, commenting on the new book “A Nation of Takers- America’s Entitlement Epidemic” by Nicholas Eberstadt says: “a culture of dependency- and the entitlement mentality it breeds -undermines initiative, self-respect, the sense of personal responsibility, civic-mindedness, and other virtues that are indispensable to the flourishing of a free society. -BreakPoint Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview 01-23-13

"From a big-picture standpoint, it's undeniable that our country is becoming a welfare state." -Robert M. Sussman, Barron's, 12-17-12

Karl Marx: "Democracy is the road to socialism."

"In a republic, the importance of the central government, seen as an economic parasite and potential tyrant, is rightfully minimized.  By contrast, our democracy today, like all humanistic democracies before it, is nothing more than mob rule - the rule of the majority - where the federal government becomes a criminal, stealing from the productive and giving to the unproductive; where the government makes ungodly laws and politicians play god, relying ultimately upon the force of violence." - No Time FOR SLAVES, R.E. McMaster, Jr.

www.dangersofsocialism.com "The pages that follow reveal the record of socialism in lives lost, freedoms taken, and economies ruined. It shows how the envy-influenced ideas of Marx, Engel, Lenin, et al, are at war with the family, the church, and with God and His word." -10 Truths About Socialism, Coral Ridge Ministries

"History shows us that socialism leads to communism - and many times with deadly results. Millions have been slaughtered - victims to tyrants like Vladmir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot. -Coral Ridge Ministries

While socialism has historically failed to help the poor, it has successfully managed to eliminate private property, strap citizens with burdensome taxes, and cripple economic productivity -all while giving government exorbitant control over the lives of individuals." -
Coral Ridge Ministries

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.  The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade at the end of the course.

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they
wanted a free ride too; so they studied little.

The second test average was a D!  No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F !!!

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away; no one will try
, or want to succeed.

The explanation of socialism cannot be any simpler than that....
